Ashtakoota
What the eight factors say
North Indian matching (ashtakoota) compares the two Moons - yours in Mula (Sagittarius), the bride’s in Hasta (Virgo) - on eight factors worth 36 points. The total is 15 of 36. The Pitambara commentary asks for at least 18 and says the higher the better. MC 6.21-34, Kedar Datt Joshi ed. with Piyushadhara and Pitambara
| Factor | Points | What it says about you two |
|---|---|---|
| Varnathe match of temperament and calling | 1 / 1 | Full marks. In the text’s terms the two temperaments sit in the right order for marriage. |
| Vashyathe pull each holds over the other | 2 / 2 | Full marks: both Moons are in human signs, so neither is pulled against their nature by the other. |
| Tarathe fortune each person’s star brings the other | 1.5 / 3 | Half marks. Counting from her star to yours gives a bad remainder, counting from yours to hers a good one, so the luck the two stars bring each other is mixed. |
| Yoniphysical and temperamental fit | 2 / 4 | Half marks. Your instinctive natures (Dog and Buffalo) are neutral to each other - neither friendly nor hostile. |
| Graha maitrithe meeting of minds | 0.5 / 5 | Very low. Your Moon-sign lord, Jupiter, treats hers, Mercury, as an enemy; Mercury treats Jupiter as neutral. |
| Gananature and temperament | 1 / 6 | Very low, and the text names a fault: Rakshasa with Deva gana. |
| Bhakootwelfare, children and prosperity of the household | 7 / 7 | Full marks. Your Moon signs are 4th and 10th from each other, which the text counts among the relations that give happiness to the household. |
| Nadithe bodily constitution of the two, and offspring | 0 / 8 | Zero, and the text names a fault: you are both of the Adi nadi. |
In short
- The match scores 15 of 36, below the 18 the commentary asks for.
- Three factors are full: the Moon-sign relationship (household happiness), attraction (vashya) and temperament order (varna).
- Raman says to judge longevity and the 7th and 8th houses before the points, and calls rejecting a match on points alone ‘highly defective and dangerous’.

Questions
How long does a reading take?
Usually three to five days. Geeta writes every reading herself.
Do we both need our birth times?
Yes. Geeta needs the date, time and place of birth of both people.
Is a low guna score the end of it?
No. B. V. Raman warns against judging a match on its points alone: the two charts come first, and the score is weighed with them. That is the order your reading follows.
We have our score from the free tool. What does the reading add?
What each koota means for the two of you, the doshas and the exceptions the classical texts allow, Mangal dosha for both, and each chart read on its own.
Is my information kept private?
Yes. We never sell your information. We never publish your photos, birth details or reading, or use them in our marketing, without your written consent.
